Made from 22 gauge nugold, silver solder, copper wire, and sterling silver tubing for the hinge.
Spray-etched design on the bottom. The design was from a free clip art site, I don't remember where. Unfortunately, it's a little off center and I wanted the design to point in the opposite direction. That whitish patch on the side of the box is solder that refused to be sanded off.
Project from my metals class last semester, a reliquary (box) to hold an item of personal significance. In my case, a small horseshoe I received as a gift years ago. The lid was die-formed using the horseshoe itself. When designing this, I was thinking about snuffboxes, sarcophagi, and how to make the container reflect the significance of the object it holds, and still be small enough to fit in a pocket.
Almost everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong on this project. I couldn't get things lined up, edges wouldn't solder properly, I couldn't cut straight lines, and making the hinge took multiple tries because I soldered the whole thing shut and melted some of the tubing.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
